I AM NOT GOOD AT BLOGGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oct 20 2011

Hi All,

I have decided that I am not good at blogging.  I start out with good intentions when I log in to the site but then I get side tracked doing other things when I get here.  I am going to turn over a new leaf.  I am going to start doing what I say I am going to do.

Since I was here last I have gone to aesthecs school actually and have gotton my liscense.  I am now a practicing esthetician at a day spa near my home which I just love.  I am also a nail tech there, so they go hand in hand.  I love doing the waxing but the facials are the best because you are actually helping women mostly chage thier skin.  You can actually change the structure of somebody's skin by using different creams and cosmescuticals on them.  I also enjoy telling women about thier skin and what they should be using in order to keep the skin healthy and nourished.  I am shocked at the amount of woman who do not know this.  On second thought, I'm really not.  My mom never taught me so why should I expect that thier mom's taught them!  It is our daughter's daughters that will be the one's that will benefit from all that we know now.  I mean even eyebrow waxing for instance.  I never got my brows waxed, so my girls never got thiers waxed until, { I went to school to learn how}, now they get it done every two to three weeks like you should.  It will be thier children that will benefit from that teaching.  Hopefully I can pass on this skill to one of them.  It will be a great thing to be able to show them.  After all, girls are asking to get thier brows waxed younger and younger these days.  Some of them want to start as young as 9.

Well, good bye for now girls and I promise that I will be back long before 9 months this time!!!!!!!!!!!!

oooh, I forgot to tell you, I met Betsey Johnson!!!!!!  Was I excited!!!!  My daughter Amanda and I wet to the local mall that she was at and had our pics taken with her and got some water and a  snack.  She is so very sweet, I totally didn't expect that.  I love her.

I DON'T THINK I WAS CUT OUT FOR NEW YORK!

Nov 11 2010
New York did not work out so well again.  So I have decided not to return there.  I am going to concentrate on my upcoming craft show on December 4th at the Esten School in Rockland.  I am looking forward to this one.  Last year there was a really good turn out.  I am also going to have an open house the day after the craft fair.  I am going to loads of items on clearance.  So if anyone out there is reading this, please e-mail me for directions.  I need to get ready for next years shows.

CRAFT FAIR AND NEW YORK

Oct 25 2010

Hello Fans,

I will be setting up at a craft fair on December 4th at 10 A.M. at the Esten School in Rockland, MA.  I have done a couple of others and they have gone well.  I am looking forward to this one.  I had to miss this one last year even though I had paid because I was in so much pain.  I am doing much better this year.  YAY!  I am looking even more forward to it since my trip to NY and my new set up that I am using.  Also my new jewelry line using more of my crocheted pieces.  I am also doing some double and triple strand necklaces.  I am really liking them and so are my customers.  I hope to see you there.

I am also going to New York City again!  I know can you believe it!  I wanted to really give it the fair chance it deserves before I write it off.  I have decided to go for the first 3 Sundays in November.  I must be out of my mind, but I can't wait.

The second week in December I should be having my annual open house and clearance sale.  WOW!  I will keep everyone updated and wish me luck.

Love, Lori Lori

MY BROTHER BUDDY

Oct 25 2010

The title says it all.  My brother Buddy.  The guy that every other guy should aspire to be.  Buddy passed away suddenly on October 15th from a heart attack.  I now believe that old cliche to be true, "Only the good die young".  My brother was only 61 years old, way too young to die.  One of his son's and his wife had just given him his first grandchild.  He was so proud.  He was a family man, always was.  I remember even when I was young he always took care of things at home before he took off for work in the morning.  I was sick as a child, I had rheumatic fever and was confined to bed for the better part of a year.  He was the one that I remember always taking me to the bathroom early in the morning before my Mom woke up, or getting me something to eat or a warm blanket.  Later, as I got older, he would always chck up on me to make sure I was okay.  Even on my wedding day he made sure that another brother who never wore matching socks had socks that would at least be as close as matching as possible so it would not ruin my day.  He was the best.  He always seemed to do the right thing.  He loved his job also.  Working at the airport, morning, noon, or night.  You could always find him there or working a second job to support his family to give them what they needed or wanted.

My Dearest Buddy, taken far to soon from us to go and sit at God's right side to help those that are afraid ease their ride.  That is the only reason that I can think that God would want him so soon.  He was a firm believer that he was going to a better place.  Here's to you Buddy, and hoping that you are in that better place you so richly deserve.

I'LL TRY NEW YORK AGAIN!!!!

Sep 28 2010

Well New York was a blast.  My daughter Catherine and I drove down the night before and stayed in Connecticut, Stamford to be exact.  The next morning we drove into the part of New York I later found out is called Nolita (Northern Little Italy), by New Yorkers.  We met lots of nice people and saw many beautiful items for sale.  In fact Cat purchased a pair of feather earrings that she has been longing for forever.  In the end, I broke even.  Which I found out was good for that weekend because I learned that all the "regulars" did not fair very well.  It was the last weekend of the summer which I thought would be great and it turns out that all New Yorkers go away that weekend to wind down before school starts.  Who knew?  The trip however was not all in vain.  I did learn that when I set up at shows such as that, I need to streamline my setup, not put out all my jewelry at the same time.  It really is amazing what you learn about yourself when you least expect it.  So I am thinking about another trip in late October.  What do you think?

Here is a sneak preview of some new pieces that I am working on.  I will have them up on the site in a couple of days.  See ya soon.

NEW YORK

Aug 11 2010

Hi Everyone,

I know I have taken a long hiatus but I am now back at it!  I will be updating my site on a regular basis.  I am making more of the same items that got me here but am happy to say that I have been inspired to make some beautiful new pieces as well.  If any of you live local to me you can now see some of my work on display at Blush Day Spa in Hanover, Ma.  That is where I work as a nail tech.  So when you come in to get your nails done and your eyebrows waxed you can buy some new jewels.  YAY!

My latest venture is going into New York City to sell my jewels at a place called The Market.  It is right in the financial district.  My daughter Amanda told me all about it.  If you are going to be in NY on Sunday, August 22 please stop by Mulberry Street and visit.  You can look them up on the net.  Thier full name is www.themarketnyc for full address and details.  If I am successful, and I plan on being so, I will be going back thier at least every other month if possible.

I am in to quotes lately, and thanks to Michala,(at work)my favorite new quote is:

If a girl ceases to blush she looses greatest charm of her beauty.

Don't you love it.  Have a great day.  I will report back about my trip to NY.

PAINTING

Apr 15 2009

I decided it was time to redecorate my surroundings.  Since my eldest daughter moved out last year and I took over her room I have not had much time to think about painting or decorating.   Well, it finally got to me.  Her room had been blue which is not a bad color but it is not my favorite.  My favorite color is green, my second fave is purple or lilac.  I already have one green room in my house so I didn't want another, although it would be a different shade it still didn't seem right.  So I chose a pale lilac for 3 of the walls and a slightly darker shade for the trim.  On the last was I used a light green, it was actually called Lily Pond.  This gave me a double shot in arm because I had to move most of the furniture out of the room to paint.  When I moved things back in, I was able to rearrange my work station to give me more room with a spot to keep my laptop set up.  This will make things much easier for uploading photos onto my site.  Now all I need is a new floor and some new window treatments!  Soon, very soon.

GLASS LAMPWORKING IS FUN.....

Apr 06 2009

I'm back!  I have done a lot since my last post.  I took a class at The Beadin' Path in Maine.  It is a wonderful bead shop that carries one of my favorite kinds of beads, vintage lucite.  These beads were actually made back in the 1930's an 1940's.  The owners go to warehouses that used to make these beads and buy out the lot of them.  There are so many different kinds.  I learned to make a bracelet called "The Picket Fence".  It is done in an off loom weave pattern called "Ndebele", which looks sort of like herring bone.  After the base is finished it is then embellished wih various types of beads from crystals to lucite flowers.  I did mine in gold.  The possibilities are endless.

Now let me get to what this post was about in the first place.  I took a class in glass lampworking to learn how to make my own glass beads for my jewelry.  I spend so much time on the internet looking for these beads I decided it was time I put the energy into doing this myself.  Little did I know how much fun this was going to be.  Glass lampwoking is just what it sounds like, working glass (using or melting) with a lamp (torch).  I took to it right away.  There is a woman in Scituate, Ma., Marj Bates, her website, http://www.glassthings.com  is awesome .  First of all it is harder than it looks, and Marj is a wonderful and patient teacher.   It took about four hours just to get the hang of keeping the melted glass under control.  I just loved all the colors there were to work with and we got to use all of them.   The glass, (we used venetian) comes in long 4 foot rods which are cut down to about 1 foot workable lengths.  We were encouraged to make as many beads as we wanted and to ask as many questions as we wanted.  The day just flew by.  When we started at 9:30 ( I started at about 10. I am not a morning person.) and finished at 4:30 it felt like we had only worked for about 4 hours.  Don't you just love when that happens!!!!  On day two it was the same way.  I did get there a tad earlier that day because I wanted to squeeze in as much time as I could.  By days end I had made around 40 beads, some good some not so good.  I didn't care though, I had made these with my own two hands.  I was happy and proud of myself.  I plan to continue to go to Marj's studio to make beads.  She says there is nothing like experience to make you better at making the beads so that is what I intend on hopefully a once a month.  The following photos show the beads I made on day one and two.  Guess which ones were on which days?

As you can tell I got a lot better on day two!  I had much more control over the glass and the mandrel (the rod used to shape the bead on).  I was able to make pairs of beads to use as earrings and some unusual shapes as pendants.  I am anxiously awaiting my next session.

See you next time.  Love Lori

I AM HAVING FUN MAKING MY NEW WEBSITE

Mar 27 2009

                             Friday, March 27,2009

I knew that making my new site was going to be a challenge!  Was I up for the task, that was the question?  I thought a long time about wether or not I wanted to do all this work or not because I was not even sure if people were going to see it.  I have nothing to lose by trying.  Now at least when I am up at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning I will have something else to do besides watch t.v.  At least this is constructive!!!  Now I need to get some new customers.  I'm workning on that too.  Good night all.
